Procedure

1. Introduction (5 minutes)

   • Introduce the topic of finding the area of a circle and explain why it is important.

2. Defining a Circle (5 minutes)

   • Use the whiteboard to draw a circle and label the different parts (radius, diameter, circumference).
   • Ask students to write down the definitions of each part in their notebooks.

3. Fractions of a Circle (5 minutes)

   • Draw a circle on the whiteboard and ask students to shade in a certain fraction of the circle (e.g. 1/2, 3/4, 1/6).
   • Ask students to explain how they arrived at their answer.

4. Area of a Circle Formula (5 minutes)

   • Introduce the formula for finding the area of a circle (A = πr^2) and explain how to use it.
   • Write out a few examples on the whiteboard and walk the students through the process.

5. Calculate the Area of a Circle (5 minutes)

   • Hand out circular objects of different sizes to the students and ask them to measure the radius of each object.
   • Ask students to use the formula to calculate the area of each object and record in their notebooks.

6. Conclusion (5 minutes)

   • Review the different parts of a circle and the formula for finding its area.
